The month of March means summery sunshine, the Oscars (hopes of Leo winning an Oscar - check), and Holi. But, for a student, March means EXAMS!
Exams can bring out the worst in everyone. No one is immune to the gamut of emotions ranging from fear, to anxiety, to nervousness and to just plain panic. We, here at HashLearn, are no different, and are here to be your friend through the dreaded times.
To handle the stress of being put to the ultimate test and the pressure of studying vast portions that seem to fall out of your brain any second, we've listed some hacks to help you sail through the exam waves courageously:
1. Toe-may-toe, To-mah-to
Have you heard of the Pomodoro (Italian for 'tomato') technique? It's simple, really. Study for 25 minutes, break for 5. After the 4th Pomodoro (25-minute stint), break for 15 minutes.
2. Twist & Shout
No one ever dances when they're sad. Why should they? Dancing releases the feel-good hormone, oxytocin, which definitely helps your mood, and shakes you out of the monotony that studying for Physics can put you in.
So go ahead and dance to Uptown Funk. (bonus: it's a four and half minute song, a perfect Pomodoro break)
3. Food, Glorious Food
Good food can uplift the moods of the grumpiest of people. There is a catch here - junk food does not help you stay alert and focused, but makes you more sleepy.
The good old adage, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away", stands. Fruits provide us with appropriate nourishment, and act well as a mid-study snack. Couple that with a bottle of water, and you'll find yourself being alert, happy & healthy. Time to put the Oreos down.
4. Now You're Just Somebody That I Used To Know
Everyone hates the part at the end of a chapter that has questions based on it. You either overestimate your knowledge or convince yourself you'll solve those successfully once you've re-read the chapter. A big no-no.
Questioning yourself at the end of the chapter not only helps you understand the questions that may be asked, but also understand what answers you will write. If you can confidently write the entire explanation of the three laws of motion with the relevant formulas and their formal definitions, you know that you really know.
5. "Hello, it's me."
A subject that you've been studying for months, can be explained in less than a day by a friend. We all know that to be true.
Revising with a friend not only helps you find the things that go over your head, but also helps you clear each other's doubts. That's why studying with a friend is so effective!
And hey, if neither of you can understand why the answer to that calculus problem is 2 and not 4, open HashLearn Now on your phone and find a high-quality tutor at a moment's notice who can help you understand that concept and enable you to solve that question. Simple!
If you still have doubts, concerns, questions or just want to talk it out, #LearnNow!
